Critical Questions To Ask Before Hiring A Duct Cleaning Company
1
What kind of equipment will be used? Portable or truck mounted?
Texas IAQ uses the most powerful, truck-mounted, diesel-powered equipment ever made specifically for duct cleaning purposes. We use state-of-the-art air-driven devices to thoroughly agitate your ducts to remove debris and contaminants, without causing damage. Texas IAQ never uses brush-type devices in flexible ducting, as this is known to cause irreparable damage more often than not (commonly used by carpet cleaners as an attachment to their vacuum hose).
2
Is the price going to change when the technicians arrive?
For Texas IAQ the answer is NO! When you call us to inquire about pricing and scheduling, you’ll receive an estimate over the phone for the cost of our service(s). We charge based on the number of A/C units and the numbers of registers in your house; neither of these two components can be “changed”. We clean everywhere in the system that air touches: from the return grille (where the filter is installed), the return ducting, return plenum, the furnace/air handler, transition to the coil, the coil itself, supply plenum, all supply duct work, supply register boxes, and supply registers.
3
How long will the service take?
3-4 Hours: It normally takes between 6-8 man-hours to professionally clean a single A/C system and the attached supply and return ducting. Texas IAQ always sends a minimum of two highly trained technicians on each service call. Two men for 3-4 hours equates to the 6-8 man hours required to complete the work; so expect the entire process for each A/C system to take 3-4 hours.
4
Does the company have a State A/C license?
For Texas IAQ the answer is YES!
To professionally clean and decontaminate an A/C & duct system in accordance with the National Air Duct Cleaners (NADCA) Standard, the State of Texas requires the service company to be a licensed mechanical contractor; Texas IAQ’ license number is TACLB-27496E. A State license is not required to access a mechanical system via the registers or the panel on the A/C unit. However, and this is very important, to clean according to the NADCA Standard, access to 100% of the mechanical system must be obtained, and for this important reason, a State mechanical license is a requirement. Furthermore, the sanitizing, disinfecting, fogging, treating, etc. of any part of an A/C system is known as biomedical remediation. The State of Texas defines biomedical remediation as follows: from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR) Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 75.10.6:
Biomedical Remediation--The treatment of ducts, plenums, or other portions of air conditioning or heating systems by applying disinfectants, anti-fungal substances, or products designed to reduce or eliminate the presence of molds, mildews, fungi, bacteria, or other disease-causing organisms.
